Manuscript Critique/Analysis

Using the "comment" feature in Microsoft Word, I do a line-by-line critique and feedback of your manuscript.  This is my most popular service.  A must for all authors interested in submitting to publishers.  Email me your document, and I will give you an estimate. After reading your book, I will provide feedback based on the following set of questions:

Story-telling Elements

  1. Is the plot interesting, do the events propel the story forward, and do the subplots assist the main plot? Is the plot compelling?
  2. Are characters effectively developed?
  3. Is the dialogue authentic?
    Is the point-of-view consistent?
  4. Is it effective to the over-all intention of the story?
  5.  Is the voice of the narrator authentic?
  6. Are the setting and setting elements clear and evoke a sense of place and time? Are characters "grounded" into the scenes?

Is there a "through-line" or theme that holds the piece together?
Chapter Issues

  1.   Does this chapter have excess or extraneous information that the reader does not need? Is there missing information?
  2.   Does this chapter hold my interest?
  3.   Does this chapter have vivid imagery and interesting description?
  4.   Does this chapter have little or no grammatical errors?
  5.   Does this chapter flow, overall? Is the pacing appropriate?
  6.   What are the strengths of this chapter, and what are the weaknesses?
  7.   Additional suggestions.
