How to Apply to College (without losing your mind!)

If you (or your parents) have anxiety over applying to college, obtaining the tools and know-how to navigate your way through the process is a must!

College counselor and writing coach Hannah Goodman will provide you with step-by-step instructions for how to apply to the colleges of your choice. From how to compile your college list, to planning college visits, understanding scholarships, and using collegeboard.com and The Common Application, this workshop will leave you armed and ready to start the application process. Hannah will touch upon writing the essay and supplements (though you want to take her other course offered at Barrington Community School for that!), and she will answer questions such as: How many schools should I apply to? Why are some schools "test-optional"? Where can I go with my current GPA and test scores? Should I take the SAT more than once? What's the difference between the SAT and the ACT? What if my school isn't on The Common Application? Students who are sophomores or juniors are encouraged to take this class as well as their parents.

Depression, worry, and anxiety. . . the three-headed monster hiding in the closet of our minds. The beast can jump out and scare us at any moment, causing tremendous physical and emotional tension inside.

What to do?

You can go to therapy, you can drink, you can talk to friends, AND . . .  you can journal it out of the way.

Journal writing is a proven way to reduce all kinds of stress. It costs little to nothing. It won’t give you a hangover. And most of all, it doesn’t talk back.

Maybe you don’t know how. Maybe you've never tried. Maybe you used to do it. Doesn't matter if you have experience writing and/or journaling or not. In this workshop, you will learn the best practices of journaling for your well-being. We will literally journal out the kinks, psychologically and physically.
