WRITE YOUR COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY WORKSHOP
August 9, 2016 noon to 1:30 pm
If you are an excellent student but have anxiety over your college application essay, or if your test scores or GPA aren’t exactly where you hoped they’d be, obtaining the tools and know-how to produce a perfect, breath-taking college essay is a must! Your essay can be the one element in your college application that can make you stand out amongst applicants. If you long to have the college admissions officers “wowed” after reading your essay, this one-afternoon workshop is for you. Using the common application as a guide, students will brainstorm ideas for their college essay. Students will leave the class with a topic for their essay and an outline or rough draft to guide them on their own.
This course is designed for both juniors and seniors and is taught by Hannah Goodman who has been teaching writing to all ages for 17 years and has spent the last decade tutoring students in college application essay writing. Additionally, with a master’s degree in School Counseling/Guidance, this is an area she knows well. Hannah is an author, tutor, and consultant, and the owner of The Write Touch. One 1 1/2 - hour workshop. FEE: $20 students/$25 adults. Scholarships are available. Call for an application. (401) 245-0432. PM Barrington High School Room 101
RESUME WRITING WORKSHOP
Everyone, student to professional, needs a sharp and persuasive résumé to attract the attention of prospective employers. Whether you’ve never written a résumé or have one that is in desperate need of sprucing-up, this workshop is for you! In this one afternoon, you will receive all the tips and tools of creating a great résumé that is tailored to your skill-set and situation. Research has shown that it can take at least ten interviews to receive one job offer, and the only way to get those interviews is have a stellar résumé that will showcase your strengths and make you stand out amongst the other candidates. Areas covered are: formatting, how to use power verbs, creating a profile and objective, and deciding what to leave out and what to include. Participants can bring in their own résumés as well.

JOURNAL OUT YOUR STRESS
Depression, worry, and anxiety. . . the three-headed monster hiding in the closet of our minds. The beast can jump out and scare us at any moment, causing tremendous physical and emotional tension inside.
What to do?
You can go to therapy, you can drink, you can talk to friends, AND . . . you can journal it out of the way.
Journal writing is a proven way to reduce all kinds of stress. It costs little to nothing. It won’t give you a hangover. And most of all, it doesn’t talk back.
Maybe you don’t know how. Maybe you've never tried. Maybe you used to do it. Doesn't matter if you have experience writing and/or journaling or not. In this workshop, you will learn the best practices of journaling for your well-being. We will literally journal out the kinks, psychologically and physically.
